Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017 and became the number one streamed track in just 6 months. It was a combination of reggaeton and pop that not only brought new attention to reggaeton music, but also more interest in Latin music. Billboard's Top 100 featured two songs which were Spanish mostly, and four others in the year 2016. In 2017, during the height of Despacito's popularity the track was among 19 that mostly in Spanish made it to the Top 100. by 2020 the number will increase to 41 songs in this category. Following Justin Bieber's bilingual remix of Despacito (2017) well-known artists have begun collaborating on reggaeton tracks, like Drake and Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) and Madonna and Maluma for Medellin (2019). In 2020, a few Reggaeton performers were complaining about its direction towards the mainstream. But, the younger generation, Rauw Alejandro, wanted to continue the evolution. It often featured elements from various genres, as well as electronic dance.
